New Century Saxophone Quartet
The Art of Fugue:
Multimedia Project
In early 2004, the New Century
Saxophone Quartet began a series of live performances of J.S. Bach’s
“The Art of Fugue” in synchronization with computer-generated
animations designed and created by Misha Films. The premiere
performances took place at Purdue University, the University of
Missouri in St. Louis, and a collaborative presentation by the Raleigh
Chamber Music Guild and North Carolina State University. Purdue
University’s Envision Center media lab and Purdue Convocations provided
major artistic and technical collaborative support, as well as
contributing, along with the other institutions to the commissioning of
the initial set of animations. The project will be expanded in
2005-2006 through the generous support of new commissioning sponsors
including Whittier College (Los Angeles) and Indiana University
Pennsylvania.
