7-12
Middle and high-school
students are addressed in a more grown-up manner, with more in-depth
demonstration
of the multicultural associations of the guitar’s repertoire.
Particular
emphasis is given to the life of the professional musician, discussing
early inspiration, dedication and disciplineof study, and the creative
process in an artist’s life.
Special presentations
Physics of the guitar: For high-school science classes. A discussion of the basics of acoustics as it applies to the guitar. Explanation of pitch as it is affected by a string’s length and mass, introduction to the harmonic series, fundamentals of musical tone.
Art and the Guitar: For middle and high school art classes. A retrospective of images of guitars by some of history’s greatest artists, from Renaissance masters to Watteau to Picasso. Musical examples representative from each artistic style-period, discussion of the historical and cultural perspective of the music and art.
