William Kanengiser has given countless performances in schools from elementary to college level, as well as for nursing homes, prisons, community organizations, and arts committees.  He has the rare gift among musicians to communicate with ease to audiences on their own level using a personable and engaging delivery.
 

K-6
A presentation carefully designed to focus children’s attention on the guitar’s sound, technique, and international range of styles.  This show captures the child’s imagination while teaching specific topics, using interactive participation and games.  Particularly effective is a segment on different genres (classical, jazz, Spanish, rock, country), in which children learn to recognize and identify these styles.

Grades 7-12
Middle and high-school students are addressed in a more grown-up manner, with more in-depth demonstration of the multicultural associations of the guitar’s repertoire.  Particular emphasis is given to the life of the professional musician, discussing early inspiration, dedication and disciplineof study, and the creative process in an artist’s life.
 

Special presentations

Physics of the guitar: For high-school science classes.  A discussion of the basics of acoustics as it applies to the guitar.  Explanation of pitch as it is affected by a string’s length and mass, introduction to the harmonic series, fundamentals of musical tone.

Art and the Guitar: For middle and high school art classes.  A retrospective of images of guitars by some of history’s greatest artists, from Renaissance masters to Watteau to Picasso.   Musical examples representative from each artistic style-period, discussion of the historical and cultural perspective of the music and art.

Master classes: As a Professor of Guitar at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Mr. Kanengiser has given hundreds of master classes at universities, conservatories, and guitar festivals around the world.  His humor and supportive demeanor make him a sought-after specialist in the field of master class coaching.  Mr. Kanengiser serves as the perfect guide to aspiring classical guitarists, working on issues of interpretation, advanced guitar technique, stage fright, and career development.
